Introduction
PUTRA is a short form of Projek Usahama Transit
Aliran Ringan Automatik. The PUTRA LRT system is one of the remedies aim
to make Kuala Lumpur free flowing city. The
RM 4.5 Billion project which will span 29km from Lembah Subang Terminal
to Perhentian Gombak has
24 stations located at 1.1 km interval. The project
has 4.40 km underground track, 2.33km
at-grade track and 22.27 km elevated track
Underground track
They are two method building the underground
track. The first method is by using Tunnel Boring Machine(TBM). The TBM's
were manufactured by Hyundai-Pati Consortium and will be use for construction
on the tunnel from Damai to Ampang Park station then to KLCC and
proceed to Kampung Baru.

The other method is using Earth Face Preasure
Shield Driven Method. This method mimimises the sinking of earth by controlling
the earth preasure at the cutter head of the shield, the amount of soil
ejected and backfilling work is done simultaneosly with excavation work.
Investigations were conducted before tunneling to protect and monittorr
structure utilities near the tunneling route.
The method will be used for tunneling process
from Sultan Ismail underground station to Benteng station then to Kampung
Baru Station
